To Walk a Pagan Path: Book Review

Pagan books candles ritual spells spiritual nature

Title: To Walk a Pagan Path

Author: Alaric Albertson

Genre: Spiritual

The Book’s Energy: Warm and informative, carful language and really seems to come from a person with knowledge and experience of what they’re talking about.

Theme: Ways to incorporate spirituality into everyday life

Rating: 9.5/10

Everything is great, just a few statements at the beginning where he says your path is a conscious choice doesn’t really sit right with me. Even if we may think it’s a conscious choice that we’re making, I don’t believe that it is. He then later changes up his way of phrasing it in the book. This book also seems as though the chapters were written with some time apart and don’t seem to integrate one into the next smoothly.

Review: Overall I really enjoyed this book and It felt very inspirational. I would have never thought to “create” my own version for the wheel of the year (or some form of alternatives) and that’s really been informative. I love how his advice was so pliable towards different paths, and how they’re truly useful examples. Definitely things which would enhance your spirituality and connection with the earth, and at the same time serve multiple purposes such as providing healthy food, creating a loving community, emphasizing sustainability, increasing your mental, physical, and spiritual health, helping the economy and so much more. I love how his advice is much more than spirituality, it’s a whole life “betterment”. Another great thing is that he provides alternatives and options to those who might not have as much access and freedom with their land or finances. He truly demonstrates that we can have connections with earth regardless of the environment you’re in or how much free time you have available. I also enjoy how he talks about life and sometimes having to skip some things at times and rearrange your schedule, which is certainly something people in todays world deal with. He also talks about the moon and season cycles, and how to incorporate those into what you’re doing in your everyday.

Favorite Quotes:

“Depending on your life design, some of the ideas presented here might be useful, but only after they gave been altered for your own use.”

“It does not matter whether you feel, see, or hear anything. Very often “no news is good news” holds true when interacting with the spirit world.”

“These things happen, and when they do, it is easy to put your spiritual needs and obligations aside “until tomorrow” The problem is, tomorrow is always a day away, because life continues to happen constantly.

“How much space is required? Only as much as you can give…”

My personal Takeaways:

I had a great epiphany during my reading that I don’t have to cater my spirituality practices towards a “generic” type when I’m sharing things through my social media platforms, I can just do whatever feels right for me!

I’ve always been an eclectic practitioner, and I sometimes felt a little uncomfortable with how I go about my practices without really following a specific set or patreon, and I realized that it’s ok, that I can just follow what feels right in my soul and not worry that I don’t “fit in” with a specific collective.

Another realization I had was that I am doing a lot of things right, and that a lot of my decisions and future plans are aligned with spirituality even if I wasn’t directly intending it to be. Not that I was doubting it, but it was almost as a “confirmation” that I’m “witching” properly? I hope that makes sense. Being mostly a solitary practitioner, I don’t have guidance from others, so I make my own way, and I guess I’m “doing it right”… but not that there’s a wrong way of doing it! 😊
